Common 2FA problems and how to resolve them

If you have enabled two-factor authentication on your Digital Surge account but your codes are not working, the steps below will help you diagnose and fix the most common issues.

1. Make sure you are using the correct 2FA code

Your 2FA code must come from the authenticator app entry that was created when you set up 2FA for your Digital Surge account. If you have multiple entries in your app, double-check that you are selecting the correct one.

If you see an “Invalid Code” message:

  • Enter the code before it expires. Codes refresh every 30 seconds.

  • Check that the authenticator entry is correctly linked. If the setup was interrupted or not completed, you may need to restore it using your backup key.

  • If you recently made changes to your phone or authenticator app, the link may need to be recreated.

2. Check for time synchronisation issues

Authenticator codes rely on accurate time settings on your device. If your device time is out of sync, your codes may be rejected.

How to sync time settings on iOS

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to General > Date and Time.

  3. Enable Set Automatically.

  4. If already enabled, toggle it off, wait a few seconds, then toggle it back on.

  5. Restart your device.

How to sync time settings on Android

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Go to Date and Time (location may vary by device).

  3. Enable Automatic Date and Time.

  4. If already enabled, toggle it off and back on.

  5. Restart your device.

If your settings appear correct, restarting your device and trying again often resolves timing issues.

Restoring 2FA with your backup key

If you saved your backup key during setup, you can restore your 2FA on the same authenticator app or a new one.

  1. Open your authenticator app, or install a new one such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy or LastPass Authenticator.

  2. Add a new account or choose the option to enter a setup key manually.

  3. Enter “Digital Surge” as the account name.

  4. Enter your backup key in the setup key field.

  5. Save or confirm the setup.

Your app will then generate a 6-digit code every 30 seconds, allowing you to sign in and complete secure actions.
