Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an additional layer of security you can enable on your Digital Surge account. It significantly enhances your account protection by requiring an extra verification step for key actions.

When 2FA is enabled, you must provide an authentication code from your authenticator app for actions such as signing in, completing AUD withdrawals, or sending crypto. Follow the steps below to set it up.

How to Set Up 2FA?

To enable two-factor authentication, go to your Profile page on your Digital Surge account and turn on 2FA. A pop-up will guide you through the following four steps:

Step 1: Download an Authenticator App

Install an authenticator app on your smartphone, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or LastPass Authenticator.

Once installed, click Next, and an SMS will be sent to your mobile device. Enter the SMS code into the provided field and click Verify.

Step 2: Link Your Authenticator App

Open your authenticator app and follow the prompts to add Digital Surge. You can link your account in two ways:

  • Scan the QR Code: Use your mobile camera to scan the QR code on your Digital Surge screen (if setting up on desktop).

  • Enter the Setup Key Manually: Enter the setup key/code provided by Digital Surge into your app. Name the account "Digital Surge" for easy identification.

Once linked, your authenticator app will display a 6-digit code for Digital Surge that refreshes every 30 seconds. After confirming this, click Next.

Step 3: Save Your Backup Key

Record and store your backup key in a secure location, preferably offline. This key is essential for recovering access to your account if you lose your device or authenticator app.

Step 4: Confirm the Authenticator Code

Open your authenticator app, copy the current 6-digit code for Digital Surge, and enter it into the verification field on your Digital Surge account. Once verified, 2FA will be successfully enabled.

FAQs

Why Am I Getting an Invalid Code Message on Step 4?

An invalid code message means the code you entered does not match the one required.

Here’s what you can do to resolve it:

  1. Ensure Timely Entry: Make sure you are entering the code before it expires. Authenticator apps generate a new code every 30 seconds, so if you wait too long, the code may no longer be valid.

  2. Recheck Setup in the Authenticator App: If the problem continues, the code in your authenticator app might not be set up correctly. Delete the existing entry for Digital Surge in your app and restart the setup process from Step 1.

Please ensure you complete all steps without interruptions: During the setup process, ensure you complete all four steps in one attempt without exiting or restarting the process.

Key Tip: The two-factor authentication code you generate in Step 2 is the code you will need to retrieve and confirm in Step 4.

What authenticator apps can I use?

You can use any app that supports time-based one-time passwords (TOTP). Popular options include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy, and LastPass Authenticator.

Why am I receiving an "Invalid TOTP" message?

This error can occur for several reasons:

  • The code entered is incorrect or not linked to your Digital Surge account.

  • Your device’s time settings may not be synced correctly. Ensure the date and time on your phone are set to automatic.

Steps to sync time settings:

  • iOS: Go to Settings > General > Date & Time, and toggle Set Automatically on. If it’s already on, toggle it off, wait a few seconds, and toggle it back on.

  • Android: Go to Settings > Date & Time (may be under System or Additional Settings), and enable Automatic Date & Time. Toggle off and back on if already enabled.

Restart your device to ensure the changes take effect.

What if I lose access to my phone or authenticator code?

If you lose access, use the backup key provided during setup to generate a new code in your authenticator app. If you don’t have the backup key, contact Digital Surge support for assistance in regaining access to your account.
