API keys allow approved third-party platforms to access your data securely. They are commonly used for portfolio tracking and crypto tax software so these services can import your transactions and generate reports for you.
Steps to create an API key
Step 1: Open the API Key section
Select the drop down menu in the top right corner of your dashboard and choose API Key.
Step 2: Create a new API key
Select Create a New API Key.
Step 3: Choose your key type
You will be asked to select one of the following:
Read/Write Key: Allows data access and the ability to execute transactions
Read Only Key: Allows access to view data only (recommended for most integrations)
If you’re unsure which option to choose, a Read Only Key is recommended.
Step 4: Complete security verification
Enter your Two Factor Authentication code or SMS code when prompted.
Step 5: Copy your API key
Your new API key will be displayed. Copy it straight away, as it will only appear once.
You can then paste the key into the third-party platform you want to connect.
Managing your API key
If you no longer need an API key, you can delete it from the same API Key section at any time. This is recommended for security.
