An API key allows a third-party application or platform to access your transaction data or execute transactions on your behalf. API keys are commonly used to integrate services such as portfolio or tax reporting tools, enabling them to pull data and calculate your taxes efficiently.
Steps to Create an API Key
Step 1: Access the API Key Section
Click on the drop-down menu in the top-right corner of your dashboard and select ‘API Key’.
Step 2: Create a New API Key
Click the ‘Create a New API Key’ button.
Step 3: Choose Key Type
You can choose between:
Read/Write Keys: Allows both data access and the ability to execute transactions.
Read Only Keys: Grants access to view data only (recommended for most integrations).
If you’re unsure which to choose, creating a Read Only Key is best.
Step 4: Complete Security Verification
For security, you’ll be prompted to enter your Two-Factor Authentication Code or an SMS code.
Step 5: Copy Your API Key
Your API key will be displayed on the screen. Make sure to copy it immediately, as it will only be shown once. Share the key with the third-party application or service you wish to integrate.
Managing Your API Key
Deleting an API Key: If you no longer need the API key, it’s recommended to delete it for security purposes. This can be done in the same API Key section of your account.
